Submission Guidelines
Health At Every Size disseminates research, theory, and practical applications in support of the belief that healthy bodies come in all sizes and shapes. Readers are mainly health professionals, educators and size acceptance activists; about one third are dietitians. They are interested in the latest research, controversies, commentary, and practical applications in supporting the use of Health At Every Size (HAES) in clinical, worksite and community settings.
Our goal is to help health professionals understand and practice this unique, compassionate, and effective approach to resolving weight and eating-related concerns. Acknowledging that these concerns are complex HAES is committed to bringing together scientific information from many sources, reporting controversial issues from an HAES perspective, and furthering the search for truth and understanding. Recognizing that weight is an easily exploitable health and social concern, HAES is also committed to exposing deception, reshaping detrimental social attitudes, and promoting good health for people of every size and shape.
Article Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in submitting an article to Health At Every Size.
Authors should be mindful of the HAES tenets as they write. The basic concepts of the Health At Every Size philosophy are:
The natural diversity in body shape and size,
The ineffectiveness and dangers of dieting,
The importance of relaxed eating in response to internal body cues,
The critical contribution of social, emotional, and spiritual as well as physical factors to health and happiness.
Most of the articles in Health At Every Size focus on research and practical applications. Summaries of various studies, rather than a focus on a single study, are preferred, depending on the topic. Original research that would be of interest to HAES readers is also welcomed.
Articles of between 2500-4000 words should be scientifically up-to-date, credible, and include key references. Guidelines for writers, including formatting of citations, are outlined separately (click here). Please read this guide before beginning your article.
Submissions should be sent as an e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word or Rich Text format. A boxed item (i.e., graph, chart, table, lesson plan) may be added. Please send these as separate files.
